You must be one old cock (sorry, I'm assuming your gender, maybe you're like George Gammon's "Moody the Millennial", who doesn't know their preferred pronouns?) to have a 16 year old son. Other than that, quality writing as always :-)

Your analysis is purely anecdotal...The only factor to consider is that Impossible Burgers are banned in European countries and China because they are made with GMO soy...that fact is mentioned in this article> https://www.ecowatch.com/understanding-gmos-2653417556.html

We appreciate the huge sacrifices you've made in braving the elements of your local grocers to bring us the hard hitting journalism we expect.

The problem with your analysis (other than it includes mostly anecdotal (aka silly) evidence) is that if and when impossible goes public, word is they will be looking for a market cap and multiple higher than beyond meat. This despite the fact that impossible is not certified to be sold in most of Europe and Asia because it contains GMO‘s. Either way, even supposing that impossible begins trading publicly at a high valuation and even if Pat is a better stock speaker than Ethan (I don’t disagree with you there), most likely outcome is Beyond’s valuation increasing along with impossible, not decreasing.

Interesting to read the description of the ‘meat free’ sections in US supermarkets and compare to the UK. Over here, the shelf space allocated to ‘free from’ products is about a quarter of the amount of shelf space allocated to meat products. However, the free from stuff isn’t tucked away in a corner of the supermarket - in fact, it often occupies premium end-of-aisle shelf space. Compare that to a couple of years ago when free from was definitely tucked away in a dark corner with very little shelf space. Appetite for plant-based products has increased hugely all across the UK (not just in London or the big cities). Perhaps because it’s a big trend, there are many, many more ‘free from’ brands available than there are meat brands - much of the meat you can buy in UK supermarkets is the supermarket’s own-brand meat, whereas there is a bewildering amount of choice amongst the plant-based products. Beyond is the premium brand here - it’s significantly more expensive than the other plant-based options and gets 5-10% of the free-from shelf-space. However, I think it is the only American meat-free brand available here (so import costs must contribute to its premium price) and it is by far the best in terms of taste and substance (it doesn’t go mushy like a lot of the other brands). I agree with a couple of the other comments here - a lot of the plant-based stuff is like the worst quality fast food, high in sugar, saturated fats and all manner of foul ingredients. But Beyond is excellent and I’m backing it to prosper - and putting my money where my mouth is (it’s a roller coaster stock for sure)!

Good stuff.

Opinion based on working in big food for 12yrs. I think you need to watch COGS/lb. The sales evolution will be non-linear once plant based becomes cheaper, so the game is waiting until that is sure thing and then going all-in. The tysons and nestles will be distracted with their core business being in jeopardy and lose to pure players in the space. Whether it’s Beyond, Impossible or someone else idk. But the pure player at that time will win.

From my experience the consumer in this space is driven by price first and quality second. So the branded players can grab a bit of premium but it’s definitely capped. So alternative meats have tapped only a small slice of the consumer set, and the rest will open up once the price is better.

If the carbon tax and/or inflation arrow starts to hit livestock, we may get there sooner than it would appear.

While I do agree with your valuation, I will tell you that Beyond Meat is /by far/ the most delicious of the bunch. Impossible is nowhere close. Sure its not meat, but whatever it is, it's damn good.

If you're ever thinking about taking a break from Chicken feed, have a Beyond Burger.

A little tidbit for your information. Not all people are genetically adapted to eating Carbohydrates (Veggies, Fruit, Tofu, etc.). Native Americans, Inuit and Aboriginals have Cardiac issues when they change their diet from animal protein to carbs, thus, going whole plant-based diet is a Death sentence for them. China has the highest rates of Heart Disease in the World because of their love of Rice. I, too, had a massive heart attack and Quadruple bypass because I followed my Doctor's advice to become a Vegetarian... Now I'm Paleo and ALL my Cholesterol numbers are very good. My Doc thinks that his advise worked. I'm here to tell you that it didn't... I'm living proof that this so-called "Healthy" Lifestyle(Tm) is going to kill more people than it will save. But then, maybe that's the point? Kill as much Humanity as possible so that we Humans are less of a burden on Mother Nature even though Mother Nature has always taken things in stride and found a way , not only to cope, but to adapt and bring everything back to balance. People should just get their Genome mapped so that they know what foods are correct for them instead of buying into the fallacy that ALL Humans can be Vegetarians...

Great "The Stupid Way" analysis! Incogmeato is one of the best brand names ever. However, there are some good chicken ones out there - "Down the Hatch" (going easy on the chickens), "Hell's Chicken" and "Slim Chickens". Keep up the great writing. It's not often one can read a stock write-up and get several belly laughs at the same time.

"If you don’t (insert Zeitgeist compliant product/service here) you must hate animals and forests" - perfect encapsulation of how the wealthy woke greenwashers, also here in old Europe, basically turn you into a Taliban, a menace to all humankind and the entire known universe in fact.
