“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson In February 2006, Sir Ken Robinson took to the stage in Monterey, California to deliver what would become the most popular TED talk of all-time. Titled
Love this post - your email list has been my favorite Ive found in a long time. Love the writing, love the analysis. Helps break me out of my bubble and started me on the path to analyzing things myself, rather than just reading others analyses
this is EXACTLY how i feel about my writing too! i've been writing publicly since 2001... my archives showcase that: http://john.do/
but... more importantly, i've built a writing machine (an infinite game machine) for artists... writers, like me: https://john.do/the-end/
i've created the ultimate alternative to writing for the web 2.0 world... where evil corps monetize my shit. i'd love your feedback at some point as your art is my art.
This has really inspired me to widen some of my thinking about what I should be doing and where I can make the greatest contributions. I suffered through school. I ended with an engineering Ph.D., so I'm good at suffering. From 1st grade onwards, I spend over 22 years in school. I was not a strong performer because school never spoke to my creativity. Actual engineering gets me excited, but taking classes didn't. Similarly, my current management job is boring and frustrating. My success as an engineer led me into management, looking for more success. As a result, I'm retiring early and trying entirely new things. I am ONLY considering work that requires creativity (and specifically the kind of creativity that I enjoy and am good at).
I'm glad that you realized that communication is one of your strong creative modes...we are all better off, as a result.
