And I love what you write. Don’t always see it the same way but feel a bit better informed once it sinks in. Thanks!

The documentary on their workshop is great. I think narrated by one of their kids?

"Felt. Enjoyed. Remarkable." Great words to aspire to as a writer, not just a furniture maker.

As a small business advisor and now an old retired “elder” I ask people “What is your definition of success?” I have received many different answers depending on where in the world one is living. I value quality of life and that can be very fluid and flexible as we move through the various phases of our life. I truly appreciate your outlook on this new evolving world and how we are to adapt. I love your community. Thank you.

Not such fan of Eames. That's what you call a recency bias. There was so much better design in like the 18th C. Ever seen a Chippendale 18C desk?

Chiipendale was great if you had a title….Gillows as an operation is a better example…but you have to jump to the 19th century….

Expand full comment

But is that actually true? Everyone knows the name Chippendale today but not many know who Gillows was. That's because Chippendale created a catalog of his work for others to copy and it wound up in countries around the world who created their own "Chippendale" styles.

I think he made it as an ordering catalog but it wound up as a "copying" catalog! It was called, The Gentleman and Cabinet Maker's Director

The Dover imprint sells a good facsimile of the Director, or used to.

The dancers seem to have outbranded the chair makers

LOL! The furniture designer, Doom. But yes, if you want expert branding...the dancers have it on the chair makers.

Love Love Love Doomberg. Worth more to me than an Eames chair. But free. (For now?)

Thank you for sharing that wonderful lounge chair. I aspire to own one sometime this decade. Looks like they last forever too

When we moved from California to Florida the one piece of furniture that came with us was our Eames lounge chair.

Doomberg is another example of the marketplace voting out the legacy media. This is social media starting to circle back on itself. Love it!

Doomberg hooked me after reading just one of their pieces. Like the Eameses chair, it was just comfortable and a great intellectual fit.
